strawberry upside down cake

I found this recipe on pinterest and used it as our fathers day dessert sunday and it turned out perfect, easy cake to prepare when you want something fast with a homemade feel to it!

ingredients:

*2 cups crushed fresh strawberries (I used a potato masher)
*1 (6 ounce) package strawberry flavoured jello
*3 cups mini marshmellows
*1 (18 ounce) package yellow cake mix (I used french vanilla and it was heavenly)
*cool whip

directions:

*preheat oven to 350 degrees
*spread crushed strawberries on the bottom of a 9x13 cake pan (I didn't have one so I used a bunt pan instead) evenly sprinkle strawberries with jello powder, top with marshmellows.
*prepare cake mix according to package then pour over marshmellows. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
*cool for 15 minutes, run knife around the pan to loosen sides, flip onto serving plate.
*top with cool whip and store leftovers in the fridge.

happy list tuesday

fathers day 2012

My husband could possibly be the hardest person to buy presents for in the world. I was stuck this year for a fathers day gift idea. Being a pinterest whore solved that problem! Welcome to the wonderful world of salt dough, an easy and inexpensive gift idea that the kids can help with. It's basically mix, press, bake, voila! My hubs loved it and I plan on making these cute prints for family christmas gifts this year. Being a whore pays off ;)

1 cup flour
1 cup salt
1/2 cup water
(seriously, that's it)

*mix ingredients in a large bowl. You might have to play with it a little, if it's too sticky add a little more flour, if it's too crumbly add a little more water.

*form a nice smooth circle about an inch thick and place on baking sheet.

*have kiddies press a hand or foot into it, you might have to do this step a couple times until you get it right, just remold and press it out again.

*if you want to hang it use a straw to poke a hole.

*bake at 250 degrees for about 3 hrs or so, bake time varies on oven and thickness of dough, tap it with a knife or spoon, if it makes a hollow sound it's done.

*let it cool then decorate with acrylic paints or glitter, I didn't have time for this step but I'll be doing it for the christmas crafts.

*revel in the fact that you are one crafty bitch.
